It looks like Barrel Top Wagons are set to take the glamping world by storm! Being larger than most shepherd huts, Barrel Top Wagons will allow visitors to enjoy a longer stay, and already, this Devon based company are in talks with 6 glamping accommodation providers who are looking to add these lovely wagons to their existing accommodation on offer.
We thought you may want to learn a bit about how these beautiful huts are made – The smaller sized towing wagons take around 2-3 months whereas the living wagons take 4-5 months, depending on the finish and fittings. Any number of features can be added, such as fitted kitchens with hand carved worktops, wood burning stove, fully tiled and plumbed in shower, bedroom, mezzanine bed, bay windows, round windows, timber framed veranda… the list goes on!
Barrel Top Wagons use timber grown and milled in the South West and really focus on the finishing as you can see from the lovely photos!
The owners of this small carpentry company love their wagons so much, they even live in one (and have done for the last 3 years!) which just shows how accommodating their wagons must be!The company consists of Ben, who designs and makes the wagons – he has many years experience working as a traditional carpenter and as a conventional builder, so uses all those skills to create the wagons. Then there’s Jo, who does the admin, marketing, sweeping the floor (!), and then there is a team of 3 staff, one to paint and 2 part time staff to help out in the workshop.
The company started 4 years ago with necessity being the mother of invention – Ben and Jo needed a place to live, and the business grew from there. The company also make timber lodges which class as caravans and take on bespoke carpentry work – They have just finished fifteen 12 x 3 ft tables and 48 benches to go in a yurt in the VIP area of Glastonbury!
The company tagline “Unique timber structures to love for life” is very apt and we think these wagons are beautiful – anyone turning up to one of these for a glamping holiday would be more than thrilled! For more details visit Barrel Top Wagons website: www.barreltopwagons.co.uk
